Overview

A / O is created with the purpose of professionalizing the artisanal industry, through tools that validate, certify and document; master craftsmen, techniques, materials, creation story. It consists of a blockchain certification for every artisan, as a digital sign to validate their origin. With Artisan Origin a new way of empowering artisan work is possible by giving the crafters autonomy and independence.

Impact Areas

Some of the direct affect of this growing industry are not generally considered a key driver of economic growth, nor looked to as a major factor of development assistance efforts. Sadly, the impact of artisan enterprises on economic development is often. This could bring a new way of empowering artisan work and give them autonomy as an independent workers.

Quantifiable Impact?

The project is already implemented in two communities of Mexico with two differents textile brands. We seek to expand the project in 3 more countries from Latin America in 2020.

Problem - Gap

The global artisan economy is the second largest employer in developing countries. Some of the direct affect of this growing industry are not generally considered a key driver of economic growth, nor looked to as a major factor of development assistance efforts. Sadly, the impact of artisan enterprises on economic development is often not fully appreciated, as this work generates income, creates jobs, fosters economic communities, sustains ancient techniques, and preserves culture, all an essential part of sustainable development. Artisan organizations are looking for ways to connect and transparent their work through the open flow of information; encouraging the confidence and development of the industry. A / O is created with the purpose of professionalizing the artisanal industry, through tools that validate, certify and document; master craftsmen, techniques, materials, creation story.

Use Case: Why use blockchain or other technologies?

We use the power of blockchain tractability in a incorruptible digital ledger of transactions that has be programmed to record the origin of creation and the path of the product. We also use blockcerts (the open protocol created by the MIT) to give a digital autonomous identity to every artisan so they can sign every product and the brands could give their costumers a certificate of origin. The collection and certification of facts: Name, Origin, Techniques, Materials, among others. That data gives power to the brands and the customers on information that validates the work and the industry.

Team Members

Our team is built by PhDs, masters and experts in artificial intelligence, robotics, data science, social science and economics. We've been trained at Singularity University in NASA, leading the implementation of emerging technologies for government. Together we’re brains and muscles in politics and technology. A perfect blend of data, exponentials and public sector. We believe that our value lies in combining experience in technology development plus knowledge about public policies and the functioning of the public sector. These complementary views on the same problem is what differentiates us, what makes our diversity so powerful. We have decades of experience in consulting with Latin America ́s governments on topics like technology, democracy, modernization, transparency and civic technology. Essentially, we have the skills to see trends, build human capacity on emergent technologies, and create and deliver technological solutions into the public sector. Concept Definition

Blockchain certification for every artisan, as a digital sign to validate his origin.

Support of B4H Goals

The global artisan economy is the second largest employer in developing countries, we seek to co-create a more transparent industry for artisan and generate a more sustainable value chain for all.

External Funding If Any

The project is already implemented in two communities of Mexico with two differents textile brands. We seek to expand the project in 3 more countries from Latin America in 2020. We received support from Ethereum Classic Lab Foundation.

Development Stage and Next Steps

We already made some pilot experiences in México, with two different brands. We give to every artisan a blockchain ID so they can sign their products, and the brands could give to their costumers a certificate of origin with different data like Name, Origin, Techniques, Materials, among others. Example: https://artisans.os.city/ and https://artisans.os.city/8df72d87-aed6-414c-9f51-505086c7f621 For the next year we plan to replicate the project in Argentina, Chile and Colombia with another artisan production like honey, textil or coffee value chain.
